Modern Practices for WorkBC Practitioners – British Columbia

The Government of British Columbia, Canada, has made sustainable employment the focus for clients of the WorkBC Employment Centres and deployed improvements to their programming in 2020 to reflect this priority.

To support the career practitioners who serve clients across the province, the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction asked us to create and facilitate a comprehensive training program. It provided methods to devise a personalized plan with clients and strategies to help them find and maintain sustainable work. The intention is to reduce the cyclical pattern of unemployment in multi-barriered clients by properly assisting them in finding more suitable and fulfilling work.

The MixtMode team created a custom curriculum for this training and a robust online delivery strategy that included access to content and activities via our learning platform, a community of practice, and weekly live sessions for 120+ selected practitioners.

Here’s what practitioners had to say about this experience:

“I have been in the industry for a little over 13 years and this is the first course that I have engaged in that was not only backed by theory but really addressed the day-to-day issues that I experience as an employment consultant.”

“I have been a career advisor for many years, and in participating in this course, it has provided even more information and tools that are very relevant and invaluable to the services I provide to the clients. The information presented was current and relevant to help us succeed with our work.”

“I now have more direction in what types of questions to ask clients, what information is relevant to help client improve employability, and how we can work on improving their communication/ relationship skills.”

This was a contract with the BC Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction.
